Masabo showcasing at Artstarts Showcase 2012

Fana Soro and Masabo will be showcasing on March 2nd, 2012 for Artstarts in Schools at the Orpheum Theatre Annex, Vancouver's newest, fully equipped theatre just one block away from the ArtStarts gallery in the heart of downtown Vancouver. We actually are not sure how many times Masabo has showcased for Artstarts since the group was formed back in 1997, but our educated guess is that we have been on the showcasing stage at least 10 times!

Artstarts in Schools has been the number one contract employer for Masabo and we have had the privilige to perform our cultural art on more than 2000 school stages across British Columbia since 1997.

We are blessed by the services of the good people of Artstarts and we know we have done important work for the education of thousands of school aged kids based on the Rubbermaid Tubs of fan letters we have received from students over the years! Keep them coming - and we will keep coming back!

Many thanks from Masabo - Fana, Jean Pierre, Kesseke and Koca. See you on March 2nd!

Fana Soro will be back at Long Bay Camp this Summer 2012!

Fana will be returning to Long Bay Camp - a Visual and Performing Arts camp for Youth - his week will be from July 30th to August 3rd, 2012. If you are interested in your children attending, please visit the web site below.

Since 1984, Long Bay Camp has been a part of summer vacation for countless kids. In 2008, we launched our Arts by the Lake Program specializing in teaching visual arts, drama, music and dance. Combining arts and nature allows campers to explore, discover and interpret the beautiful world around them. We can’t think of a better way of learning a new skill, than in a fun and exciting natural camp atmosphere!

Masabo Black History Month Tour in Ontario wraps up...

Masabo has just completed a 20 school tour of Ottawa area elementary and high schools in celebration of Black History Month 2012. Fana Soro, Jean Pierre Makosso, Kesseké Yeo and guest artist, Mohammed Diara, of Les Cobras du Mandigue, finished the tour with rave reviews from the scholastic community.

This just in from the principal of St. Francis Xavier High School in Ottawa -

Amazing is the only way to describe the performance of MASABO! That is the word that all members of the Admin team and several staff individually used to describe the event. Intermediate students were fully engaged and moved past inhibitions to take on the persona of different animals as everyone in the room became performers. When I had the chance to peek in the room, staff were at the front dancing with the performers and students were clapping and rising up from the floor dancing as well!
This event was made possible through the Arts Incentive Grant through the board, and inspired by my participation in the Arts Incentive Day where I saw Fana Soro give a presentation about his group. I knew he would be engaging, but WOW! You don't usually get something that everyone raves about like this!! Everyone!!!
There is no doubt that workshop registration for Feb 23 & 24 will be full!
We highly recommend MASABO as a performing group for this age group! We look forward to our workshops with Fana Soro!

There is also amazing music from world-class musicians of all genres. This year, Fana will be teaching and the entire Soro Family will be performing with him - it will be our family debut!
